i wish i had enough money to get solar panels installed at the old family farm. mum isn't too excited about them and also doesn't have the money. the house already heats mostly on geothermal energy however utilising it requires quite a lot of electricity, still, and being able to save up all the electricity during the sunny summer months would help with that a lot.
they have wood burning stoves used because it is cheaper than the electricity that the geothermal requires but large scale wood burning is ofc not an amazing solution. (but wood is free when it comes from the back garden...)
i also wish the village worked more communally as it used to, nowadays people have become so isolated in their own detached houses. i spose only the road infra and the water co op are the only communal functions there atm. (why this is my business; i will likely move back there sooner or later)
the thing about being a part of the electricity network out there is that the transfer cost is MORE than the use, and you need to pay it if you are not off the grid. so being able to be off the grid would be financially important actually if your income is low.
