@scott@sfba.social @danielcornell@mastodon.social LLMs are indeed intelligent in some manner, but not human at all, entirely alien and without a conscious mind. They are like ant colonies living in some kind of incomprehensible billion-dimensional library space where they rearrange words because that's what the ants were bred to do. It's a Chinese Room, not a mind. The only consciousness a human can actually perceive is their own. However, we show each other our consciousness through our storytelling abilities. Of course talking to anything that can talk feels like we have met another mind, but that's just an illusion.
