Took The Teenager to see Finn Wolfhard at Union Transfer last night (her request.) Despite the immediate skepticism I have for any band with a TV celebrity at its core, the kid has chops and merges worthy beta male influences (Chris Bell, Paul Westerberg) with “Damn the Torpedoes”-era Tom Petty and a Faces-like smirk. (A point driven home by the on-point cover of “Ooh La La.”) The largely Gen-Z crowd was extremely earnest, which was to be expected, but I think my wife and I liked it more than the many confused-looking parents we joined in the balcony for the back half of the set.
