This has been a very useful and cathartic exercise for me, if only in the sense that I now have a much better idea of which parts of Firefox I wish to be different, how big those parts are, and the extent to which they are integrated with the rest of the browser (the fact that we are now over 1.25 million lines still hasn't settled in my brain yet) I have a few more patches I'd like to sketch out, my plan is to keep chipping away at this in whatever spare time I can find.

@sarahjamielewis@mastodon.social Here's a way that I think you could make this project successful: make this code a "reference implementation" of sorts that other Firefox forks (e.g Librewolf) can base themselves on. Or you could release it as its own browser (Demozillaed Firefox anyone?). No harm would be done then either as other existing forks can still be based on your code.
