I've updated the AI removal patch to purge a few more files that I missed the first time around. There is also a new patch, that removes the newtab sponsor heavy/widgety home (808 files , 420419 deletions) There is also a PR open to document testing instructions for the curious. And I've opened some issues for discussions to each patch to collect any feedback from testing / open questions etc.

This has been a very useful and cathartic exercise for me, if only in the sense that I now have a much better idea of which parts of Firefox I wish to be different, how big those parts are, and the extent to which they are integrated with the rest of the browser (the fact that we are now over 1.25 million lines still hasn't settled in my brain yet) I have a few more patches I'd like to sketch out, my plan is to keep chipping away at this in whatever spare time I can find.

@sarahjamielewis@mastodon.social Here's a way that I think you could make this project successful: make this code a "reference implementation" of sorts that other Firefox forks (e.g Librewolf) can base themselves on. Or you could release it as its own browser (Demozillaed Firefox anyone?). No harm would be done then either as other existing forks can still be based on your code.
