Immigration judges are Justice Department employees, inside the executive branch, which leaves them exposed to pressure from the administration prosecuting the cases they hear. After the June 29 ruling in Trump v. Slaughter, the administration removed the three remaining members of the bipartisan Election Assistance Commission within 10 days.
