Quick update on my first poker tournament. I came in second place! Now, there were only six people who entered, but I finished ahead of the guy who I thought was the best player at the table. Effectively, I learned so much that it was easily worth the $25 I was out for tipping the dealers and the difference from the prize money versus what I put in. So many lessons as well! I think it will really inform how I am going to play moving forward. It'll be part of my style, I'm suggesting. While I am not going to give up too much of my strategy, I'll just share a couple of things. First, I don't think I've had that much fun in two and a half hours with my clothes on in years. Second, I beat the guy who I thought was the best player at the table. This told me that maybe I could actually do this after all. Third, the guy who won told me he thought I was playing well enough to be in the money, and he was right. Anyway, there were even more lessons, but I am going to just write them down in my own personal notes. I think the biggest takeaway is that I can be a poker player, because I am. It reminds me very much of the first offsec job that I landed. Didn't really feel like I belonged, but I managed to keep it going. It's the same energy, or the same "vibe" as the kids say these days. It's also nice that I don't have to wait around to pursue this goal or this dream. It's right there. There is only one thing stopping me from going for it, and that's me. I might fail. I've failed over and over again in life. That's not something that I am afraid of. At this point, I am more afraid of not trying. #poker
