I don't know how this works on the tech side, but most cars Ive been in, since the early 2000s, would automatically switch frequencies to whatever the local branch of the given station was. This didn't require DAB.

In that case, the radio receiver can continue following the programme even when its broadcast frequency changes.

@miki@dragonscave.space @cachondo@defcon.social @matt@toot.cafe @alexhall@mastodon.social Probably, at least for stations with national coverage or with multiple regional branches. These days the airwaves consist mostly of such stations but independent ones were still a thing when I was younger.
