A field of polygons as seen by the NASA Mars Curiosity rover.
Aka honeycomb textures and polygonal fractures, each one is about 4 to 8 cm across.
"A variety of processes can contribute to the honeycomb textures, including repeated, perhaps seasonal, wet-dry conditions, cycles of warm and cold temperatures or compression that squeezed water out of the sediment when the surface was buried"
