the premise that we shouldn't call people from the US "americans" is just, that country doesn't own or represent the entire continent(s) and is actively committing genocide against people from most of the continent(s). but I also think "USian" sounds stupid and is inconsistent with other demonyms. so I think I've been subconsciously defaulting to "people from/in the US," giving us the person-first treatment like an autism mom with a thinly veiled disdain for the adjective in question

I would do the thing where they put as many words as possible between the person and the condition but it would only complicate the scope. "people with the United States" is just fascists, "people suffering from the United States" is the entire world
