@rrb@infosec.exchange They probably still lament that we aren't publishing in Latin anymore.
I do think that making the things coming out of academia less legible is a contributing factor to the decline in trust and why people prefer to trust some rando on TikTok who at least speaks to them in terms they can understand.

@ombialik@mastodon.world That is part of the reason why law and medicine jargon is mainly Latin. I have thought for a long time that a large part of academia is creating a jargon that separates the in group from the out group. There is some justification for using concise and precise language, but it is over done. I think Mathematics is the epitome of jargon...
