@SurrealSeal@cupoftea.social I can assure you that when you reach a certain age, this will happen more and more. Ready yourself (as best we can) for it.
There was a time when I was in a new job, new town, and was "saying hi to a lot of people" that I met. Now I'm saying goodbye.

@Son_of_a_George@thecanadian.social It’s so sad. When her time comes this lady will be missed far more, & by more people, than she would ever realise. I hope she might make it for a few more years, but the odds are not looking good atm. I don’t make friends easily (especially since I moved here, although the locals are lovely) & value those I have very highly. I have unfortunately already reached ‘that certain age’ that you mention.
