I believe my main issue with most character sheets is that they focus completely on the character design, often ignoring their personality and environment. In a normal commission setting that's usually not a problem because you can just ask, but for Art Fight I avoid it because: 1st I don't want to spoil the surprise and 2nd, I don't want to disappoint them when I find it's not working out and I switch to another character, abandoning theirs, when they already kinda expect that they get an artwork. #artfight #artfight2026

People sometimes try to give information about their OC's personality but it's often so generic and vague, that it doesn't really tell anything about them you can work with as an artist. Like: "They like sweets and good things. And they hate spicy food and bad things." Well I guess, but that's not really helpful in most cases and will probably end in the most generic artwork you wont like. I don't expect a lore dump (although always welcome) but I believe a good start would be to have just a few situations from everyday life and how would they react to it. Like what would they do if the waiter brings them the wrong food? Complain? Maybe eat it but refuse to pay. Say nothing and just accept it even if they don't like it. How would they react to a stranger on the street asking for money. Stuff like that can tell you a lot about someone. Where do they live, what is their job. Have they many friends or none. I think my own character pages lack a lot in that regard too and I want to put more effort into it for next art fight. #artfight #artfight2026
