#DexysMidnightRunners were brilliant but often they were derided by the arbiters of "cool" because they refused to confirm to what alternative pop was meant to sound like and look like.
Yes Kevin Rowland is "difficult" but he does have manic depression. For years he said that the record company reworked the Too-Rye-Ai album after they finished recording it and ruined it. Now he has released "his" version and to my ear it doesn't sound drastically different. It was always a fucking great album.

The 3rd "CD" of Kevin's Too-Rye-Ai is a live gig and it's wonderful. I wish I had been there. That's how you sound great, put on a great show and really innovate without breaking what you already have.
Dexys were always good at false endings and building a song up to a crescendo and there are some great examples from that gig and not just Come On Eileen.
It takes balls to do a version of Respect too. I love Kevin's change to the lyrics to. "Are you going to fuck me when I get home" 😝 I am not sure if Aretha would have approve of the new words but I reckon Otis would have wrote something very similar originally.
