The Media should really do Box Office Math before running their mouths about the Odyssey being successful. Studios don't get all box office money. They get 60% of domestic and roughly 40% of international. Possibly less international, depending on where it is big. For example, China is 25%. There is also loss due to currency exchange.
Domestic: $163,678,510 * .6 = $98,207,106
International: #140,297,000 * .4 = $56,118,800
Total Gross: $154,325,906
Cost: $250,000,000
Marketing: $125,000,000
Total Known Costs: $375,000,000
Net Before Unknown Expenses: -$220,674,094
Known Unknowns not accounted for: Interest on Loans, Interest for Investors, Taxes, Currency Exchange Losses, which ranged from a 2% to 3% baseline and can go as high as 5%-15% depending on whether the dollar strengthens against international currencies.
When asked, Gemini estimated the interest would be between $45 million and $95 million. With all applied and giving the most generous estimates, the movie is -$266,796,470 in the hole.
