Can we afford the future?
With costs in the scholarly publishing system continuing to rise, while resources do not, the pressure on library consortia to make strategic choices for their investments continues to rise. Last week we presented our work on evidence at the #LIBER2026 conference.
Building on work commissioned by IReL with @MsPhelps we have built an analytics pipeline that supports a scenario planning tool, projecting consortium costs into the future under different scenarios. Using data from #CAUL and #Bibsam we show how publicly available metadata can be used to build publishing profiles as well as modelling publishing services costs. Where public data is available a full detailed analysis is possible.
