Reminder: Telling people - especially strangers - who are being harassed online to "just ignore it" is, at best, not at all helpful.

This is true EVEN IF YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT "IGNORE IT" IS THE BEST THING FOR THEM TO DO. The fact that it might (or might not) be the best thing to do does not make it the best thing to TELL someone to do.

@mattblaze@federate.social @adamshostack@infosec.exchange in the ranks of advice that has never once helped anybody, "Just ignore it" is up there with "Calm down"

@mattblaze@federate.social Just ignore people telling people to ignore it Matt. (Sorry, I try to comfort people with poor attempts at humor. No one deserves to be harassed, online or otherwise.)

@mattblaze@federate.social too bad there isn’t a ‘central asshole list’ where folks could post to so we could see their harassment and collectively we could all block them
