I'm not a lawyer, but Section 2 of the Fraud Act 2006 makes dishonestly making "untrue or misleading" statements about facts or "state of mind", "to make a gain", a criminal offense - specifically including when done without human intervention.
Sending automated emails claiming that a paid product was designed specifically based on someone's work sure sounds like misleading statements to make sales...

Of course, this is totally academic in this case anyway as I don't think either party is subject to UK law - but it does raise an interesting question around fraud by false representation by AI agents. I've not heard of case law on this but I'd love to read it if there is some!
