I thought that, too. But as we developed a special newssite for young people we discovered that the vast majority in the survey wanted an app, not a webpage or a installable webpage.
I don't understand it until today but it must be a generational thing.
As I am in the mid 50s I am too far away from the kids to understand it.

I want to have the freedom to choose my OS and I don't want that OS to belong to Google or Apple. https://mastodon.social/@anatudor/114336571095952583 There is no fucking way to use the website without the app. The app requires either Android or iOS. I don't have a smartphone and I don't want to get one. At least not for now. If I do get one, I want a Linux phone. Where the stupid app won't work anyway.
