@ahoneybun@hachyderm.io If people enjoy having a copy of something that they can hold in their hands, or display on a shelf, I'm all for it -- I don't want to yuck anyone's yum.
But I hate that we're setting up a narrative of "you don't own digital copies, to own something you have to have a physical copy."
DRM is the real thing we should be fighting against. If you have a DRM-free file you can back it up, move it around, and generally do whatever you want with it. It doesn't matter if it's on an SSD or a piece of plastic. And vice-versa, having a game or movie on a physical disc doesn't help if it still requires unlocking with a key or authenticating with an online server. Plus, physical media is prone to damage, loss, theft, disc rot, etc.
IMO a digital file is the ultimate form of media in terms of instant access and an infinitely long shelf life. I hate to see it dragged through the mud because of DRM and greedy companies.

@nathandyer@hachyderm.io @ahoneybun@hachyderm.io I have loads of game discs that are essentially useless, since I used up the code already.
