This is marvelous, and probably much closer to the actual performance practice of Bach's time (extensive improvisation, ornamentation, stylistic transposition, and general reworking that treats the score as a starting point and not a constraint) than what happens in concert halls in the present.

@inthehands@hachyderm.io It has been quite common especially for basso continuo, but as someone educated classically this is now hard to imagine. Do you know Vikingur Ólafsson’s work? I appreciate his very free interpretations of Bach.
