Say what you want about Queen's Hot Space but it helped position them for Radio Ga Ga and The Works. Instead of the public rejecting the toned down dance sound, they embraced it ... naturally, it helped that they took a sound Taylor's kid made and turned into lore about big music and radio, but they relied on that backdrop from Hot Space. Hot Space suffered from being conflated with disco and Flash Gordon space rock momentum, but and by 1984/85 a new wave of hi-nrg had emerged, allowing Queen to authentically and naturally tap the wave and potential. By Live Aid, two months after they completed touring for The Works, they were in optimal live performance mode (were they ever not lol), and had already benefitted from Radio Ga Ga being a number one hit (2 in the US only), and tapped that still present memory for complete audience control. While artists like Zeppelin came for a cameo, Bowie put together a fresh band just for the show lol, and Bono took his bad haircut and antics to future stardom ... meanwhile, old fashioned Queen spent a WEEK rehearsing and came in to PERFORM. The rest is history ... I watched it live on TV with my mom and sister ... Mom is same birth year as Mercury and sis was 14 ... I was 7 and sang "We will rock you!" Incessantly for weeks after until my Mom lectured me about Africa / Ethiopian famine and the shows purpose lol. Let's foca go baby ... QUEEN 👑 is bangers good! #music #art
