VARIOUS ARTISTS No New York 1978 U.S. pressing The crown jewel of today’s finds from downtown; a PRISTINE original upgrade copy from my unlistenable beat-to-shit one, and one of the most influential compilations ever. The NYC “no wave” scene didn’t last long, but Brian Eno was ALL about it, after witnessing some of the bands at an art space in Manhattan. Eno wanted to record these very out of the box bands for posterity, and opted to do it in a very “live” off-the-cuff manner. 4 bands contributing 4 songs each, it is a pivotal document of what was happening in the late-70s NYC underground. The Contortions (more on them later), Teenage Jesus And The Jerks, Mars, and D.N.A.; all envelope pushers in the best sense of the phrase.
