Something that fascinates me, and maybe this is just my mostly Irish and Scottish heritage coming through, but I have never viewed the "UK" as a "country". It is true the "UK" is a sovereign state but it is composed of 3.2 countries that don't really see eye to eye and don't get me started on "English culture" because that is at least three or four distinct cultures. Even the first part of my life in England, it was *always* England we lived in. Never "The United Kingdom".
