@drgroftehauge@sigmoid.social @inthehands@hachyderm.io open-weight or not, it's still stolen from all over the place, or at least taken without consent. 🤷♀️ they don't charge for any of it, but it's now locked behind the ability to afford a device and having the technical skill to run the models. At least in my opinion, in terms of accessibility of information, it's still a net loss. I can't at the same time hate Google for their monopoly on search, and thus access to information, and cheer open-weight models. Although I'm somewhat what more open to being convinced that open-weight models are net win for society. There's at least a theoretical path to get there .
