It’s highly likely they have huge salaries to go along with it. There are worse ways to spend your time.

Maybe, but you’d be surprised how many shitty, low paying shops exist out there that pull stupid shit. A few of my graduates went to one locally where they did not have a single version control system setup. Granted this was about 10 years ago but 2016 was still in an era where they should have known better. You had a fuckton of newbies and non-coders who schmoozed into positions basically live editing prod.
