It looks like gtkpod isn't being maintained anymore. Since I upgraded to Trisquel 12, it's no longer in apt. I could compile it from source... maybe...
For now, Rhythmbox is a good way to get songs onto my old iPod. Now I can continue listening to these Redwall audiobooks.
