Imagine I have an entirely unlabeled recording of a song on my computer. Is there a good way to get an ID on it without involving the Anthropic or OpenAI corporations? Imagine "play it out the laptop speakers into your phone" is only an option if the phone can be Android

  • @mcc@mastodon.social the 'Google' app on my android does it, and did it long before the rise of LLMs. Open it up, hit the microphone button in the search field, then hit 'search a song'. As far as I know, Google, Apple, my car's infotainment system, et al all use Gracenote's proprietary music identification system, which stood on the backs of thousands of volunteers contributing to CDDB (including myself) before it got monetized and paywalled in late-stage web 1.0 dotcom fuckery.
