@ajroach42@retro.social I’d expect a few peaks in the distribution: Not part of my country’s cultural tradition, never bothered.Forced to watch one or two at school but didn’t like them.Enjoyed them and actively sought out more.Massive fan, tried to see them all. So I’d expect most of the less than 20 to be closer to the top end, skewed by the fact that there are 10-15 that get performed a lot more often than the others (in the same way that, if someone has seen one Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, odds are it was Pirates of Penzance). I get mildly annoyed at how Shakespeare has been promoted to Literature with a capital L. He wrote popular trash. Some of the enjoyment is lost for a modern audience by the fact the plays are full of references to current affairs that no one has had living memory of for a few hundred years, but when they are played by a group of players who view them in this way they’re far more enjoyable than the treatments that try to portray them as serious high-brow entertainment. I suspect the latter version is why there are so many people in the second category.
