so body size affects the audiogram - larger animals have larger ~ everything ~ so the natural range of tuning is lower. the mammalian auditory system has had several evolutionary novelties that allows it to maintain high sensitivity over a broad range of frequencies, but insect auditory systems are usually simple tympanate systems. grasshoppers have an audiogram that is tuned for their social communication range, 6-9kHz, though interestingly enough some of them have multiple different sets of ears. so anyway no, giant grasshoppers probably cannot hear ultrasound. https://doi.org/10.1002/(SICI)1097-0029(19991215)47:6%3C380::AID-JEMT3%3E3.0.CO;2-P #monsterdon
