You use the metal shim gauges like you would use the paper, slide it between the nozzle and bed so there's just a bit of drag.
I installed heavier springs on my bed to make things more repeatable.

@FritzAdalis@infosec.exchange @duk3luk3@cloudisland.nz Yeah, that "just a bit of drag" is exactly what I am complaining about. That's 100% subjective and 0% science. I can't for the life of me remember what the heck I considered "a bit of drag" last time.
