I moved from my self-hosted #Akkoma instance back to infoset.exchange. I love #Erlang and really wanted Akkoma to work for me. But the hassle was too much and it felt like an isolated island.

I learnt that in a decentralized and distributed system, like the fediverse, the more nodes involved, the more resources each need to reconstruct a "global state". I didn't have much resources (1 vCore, 1GB RAM, 10GB SDD), was connected to two relays, and every toot was just a shout into the void. I tried to improve my reach by following more accounts, but my federated timeline was just a mess. It was a rather frustrating experience. In contrast, on a well-federated instance, such as this one, I only need to use the proper hashtags and people will find me.
