There's a lot of negative sentiment about LLMs in the libre/open-source community atm. @Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de decision to largely forbid hosting of LLM-generated code is a fresh example. @sesivany@social.vivaldi.net wrote a good, balanced piece on the topic: https://enblog.eischmann.cz/2026/07/23/how-ai-is-changing-open-source/ -- I won't repeat the arguments here; no doubts, LLMs are having a major impact on both the technical and social foundations of the unwritten 'open-source contract'. 1/9

The critique is valid and focuses on the *coding* side of open-source. One can argue whether 'hand-coding' will still be relevant in a few years, or whether it will become a niche craft, like coding directly in assembly today. But there's no denying that the slow-paced community-building process on which open-source thrive -- and where individual contributors find meaning and social reward -- is hardly compatible with the primarily individualistic & fast-paced nature of LLM code churning. 2/9
