@ingorohlfing@mastodon.social The cynic take: Since MDPI some journals advertise turnaround times. I guess it should stand for "efficiency", but really given Goodhart's law what do we care? Of course this put pressure to take any reviewer over a real expert. The optimistic take: editors have so many excellent reviewers lined up so they can move quickly (large fields like medicine work that way, I think). Perhaps it's also a reflection that many wait until the deadline to do the review?

  • @druedin@sciences.social I admit I belong to those reviewers who tend to wait until the deadline is close. In this view, tighter deadlines do improve turnaround times.
