Maybe checkout #ox (#OpenPGP for #XMPP). It's not as complicated as #OMEMO. it's currently supported by #profanity, #gajim and #GoSendxmpp. #Conversations is currently working on support.

@martin I had heard that this was discouraged by the XMPP foundation for...unclear reasons?
