I found it. It's so dumb. I had to trace my way through that codebase with weird cached PHP code, using echo statements to see where it failed. It turns out it hangs in getPatreonStatus() where it tries to read a JSON file from the now defunct project website. It even has a timeout (set to 3.14, how funny) but that doesn't seem to have done anything. ARGHHH
