It's always worth remembering that people are *inherently* selfish. Also, not that good at predicting problematic outcomes of their selfish choices. People are *biased*.
They are not reasonable, nor rational, nor open-minded. So many problems arise not so much from that, but form irrationally expecting people to be otherwise.

My instant reaction to the idea that people are inherently selfish is denial, but of course as babies we are all totally selfish, and the process of "growing up" is one of learning to accept the equal reality of others. Sadly, many never fully achieve this, with the consequences all around us. Indeed, there is much in our society which benefits from and encourages not growing up. @8r3n7@mstdn.ca
