I was surprised when I first saw the city demolishing the empty parking lots. This was before I was aware of aquifers and how they worked. I believe the motivation was this was a high traffic area and a high end luxury car dealer was on the other side of the road, was always getting flooded. So they lobbied the city to manage the flood area and removing the massive unused paved parking lots including the abandoned businesses that were flooded every year. The flooding immediately went away. Now it's beautiful wetlands next to a creek and bicycle trails.

@dianea@lgbtqia.space @Su_G@aus.social Beavers are also helpful in restoring groundwater, wetlands, and fish populations. So much so that California has an official beaver restoration program .#beaver
