mahmoud 🇵🇸
@mahmoodhamod991@mastodon.social
lost his mother and siblings in a bombing raid three years ago in December. He himself was rescued from the rubble of his home, severely injured.
At the beginning of this month, he underwent the long-awaited surgery on his right eye. He was on the verge of blindness due to the after-effects of the injuries he sustained in the bombing.
Then, about a week ago, the Israeli army inflicted another cruel blow upon him. As the army advanced and the shelling intensified from all directions, he had to leave the shelter "after two very difficult and harsh days" as he said.
Now he is homeless, temporarily staying in a room at a friend's house with his father and sister. But situation is so harsh. They share a small room with his friend's family, bringing the total number of people in it to seven!
The following is his words:
"The place is so cramped and there's barely enough room to breathe, that my friend and I have to leave the house early every morning so his family and the women can have some privacy. We spend long hours outside under the scorching sun, which causes me severe harm and complications due to the injury in my eye."
He is posting on Mastodon under the relentless sun and dust.
He is currently at a loss.
To secure stable housing for his family, he needs $400 a month in rent.
Another option is to buy a tent, but this is also impossible with his current financial situation.
Yestereday, he said:
"To be honest, I'm really suffering and I'm not at all comfortable with the conditions I'm living in. We're crammed into a small room, and the intense heat from the large number of people inside makes me feel like I'm suffocating. I accept what God has decreed and I know there's nothing I can do, but I'm truly exhausted. Between the heat, the insects, the rats and rodents, it's far more than I can bear. I'm truly worn out."
To be honest, I am at a loss as well.
I have tried to let people know his needs but so far very few donations have been collected. Furthermore, my own limited financial resources are far from sufficient to provide him with adequate assistance.
And I think Mahmoud is now my irreplaceable friend. I can no longer just say “I’m doing my best.” So, I’m feeling myself helpless, though it is incomparable to what Mahmoud is feeling.
In any case, I believe that a friendship is so precious. Mahmoud’s suffering may be neither less nor more than the suffering of countless other people in Gaza. And my meeting with him was by chance. But once you meet someone, chance becomes inevitability. This change is mysterious and fantastic. I will do everything I can to help Mahmoud. This decision makes me happy.
So please, even if it's just a small amount, I would really appreciate it if you would donate to him.
