I see a lot of people here who are adamantly against AI. Since I'm a techy I like to investigate new technology, and I would like to stress that a whole bunch of developers with me feel like they have no choice when it comes to the usage of LLM's. The tone that people are adopting doesn't feel constructive at all. At times it feels downright aggressive. I get where this comes from, AI is an unethical technology at lots of points. 1/2 #noai

@tomootes@social.codefor.nl Yes, when dealing with billionaire fascists wrecking the economy to forcibly inflate an environmentally disastrous technology built on "concrete airplane"-level awful engineering, using it as a cover to for surveillance, to destroy our rights, personal computing, democracy, sure, I can get a little less than diplomatic. I speak as someone with a Ph.D. in an adjacent field of computing and 35 years on and off experience with the tech, who banged the drum warning about the last financial crisis (Zachary Quinto in Margin Call; that was basically me.) The bubble will burst, but it will destroy trillions of savings and resources. The damage will not be well contained. @tomootes@social.codefor.nl while a lot of the problems with AI can be regulated, or already are, there are also fundamental issues including epistemic injustice that are damaging but not really something the law can do anything about
