Trademe won't tell me how much it is to sell a car before I enter the details. They also say "We sometimes A/B test our pricing, so some members will be offered a different price than others. If you have any questions about this, please contact us." I think it's so nice of them to put so much effort into giving me the cheapest possible price! #ScumSuckingTechBroBullshit

@thomasbeagle@mastodon.nz This seems straight out of the chapter on how to obfuscate pricing for your customers from the 'How To Enshitify Your Product', Vol 1 guidebook.

That's seriously shitty. They've updated their help files to remove any reference to fees for for vehicle sales and included the 'surge pricing' line you quoted. It makes comparisons with other sales methods impossible. And from TM's perspective, once you've gone through the process of entering all your vehicle's details you're far less likely to abort the process. Variable pricing... testing what certain sections of the market will tolerate. I'd like to see the criteria they use and I'll bet AI is involved. @thomasbeagle@mastodon.nz #TradeMe

@thomasbeagle@mastodon.nz , I'm wondering if, 'variable/evaluative pricing' especially by supermarkets is something to complain to the human rights commission?
