@sidalsolgun@infosec.exchange In some ways, yes, Alberta is the Texas of Canada. Oil, cattle, and conservative politics. With a couple large cosmopolitan cities with progressive bent, pushing back at the state/provincial government. The "of Canada" is important, though. The dividing line between right vs left wing policy has always had a different reference point. (Also, weather.) But that is definitely changing. Modern rage-baiting social media & cable news influencers mean that hot button issues regularly spill over. When Smith became premier, she had a "leave the kids alone" policy on trans rights. That lasted less than 2 years, I think? The panicked mob that vote at their party conventions holds a lot of sway. For now, anyway, I wouldn't say that living in Edmonton is that different from living in Ottawa or other medium-large cities in Ontario. Rent is cheaper (but rising), utilities & insurance are more expensive. Hospitals & schools are overcrowded, transit is inconsistent. People are a mix.
