@Gaolaitch@cupoftea.social Weird, isn't it. When I think of where I grew up (I haven't thought of it as "home" for a very long time), it's always summer or Christmas. Anyway, this came on my playlist earlier, thought you might like. Mari and Håkon Samuelsen - Moonlight Sonata (yes, that one)

@MiaMarkTwo@syzito.xyz that was v interesting: my reaction was that the melodic lines were well-suited to sustaining insts, but the triplet figuration is too pianistic for strings, on strings it gains a spurious melodic importance for me (maybe not for everyone) and so became the focus for my ear, crowding out the true melody. this may be because i was unconsciously playing along with it. it is a problem i’ve wrestled with (and generally lost to) when arranging for strings, that what is the background in piano becomes foreground. also: i liked that there was not scope for too much rubato in it (because: more than a single player so co-ordination requires simpler rubato) and so it didn’t suffer from relentless rubato syndrome that some piano performances have. have i overthinked it enough, or would you like some more? 🤪
