There are some things in the world I won't understand. I'm using Google's "user friendly" Android flash utility. Here's the conversation I'm having with it (in my head).
UF: Plug-in the device.
Me: Sure /plug_in_device
UF: Ooopsy. Please enable pop-ups.
Me: Why?
UF: So I can ask you for permission to do something.
Me: What?
UF: Enable pop-ups and I'll tell you.
Me: /enable_popups
UF: Can I enable ADB tools?
Me: A normal user wouldn't know what that is. Why are you asking?
UF: Because I can't do it without permission.
Me: Why not tell the user what's going on and why this is being asked?
UF: I'm user friendly?
Me: Ever hear of informed consent.
UF: ...
Me: ....
Both: HAHAHA!
UF: I'm Google. I know what it is.
Me: Fine... /enables_adb_tools
UF: Excellent. Now follow these instructions on your phone.
Me: I follow the instructions and the phone is telling me not to do it. It's a security protection against malware.
UF: It's me. I'm Google. You trust me, don't you?
Me: ...
UF: ...
Both: HAHAHA!
Me: I know what you're doing and am fine with it. Another user may not know what's going on.
UF: They don't need to know anything. I'm user friendly!
Me: Whatever. /press_through_dialogs
UF: Okay, now confirm you want me to wipe the device.
ME: Sure.
UF: .............. Ooopsy. Something went wrong.
Me: What went wrong?
UF: I can't tell you that.
Both: "I'm user friendly!"
UF: Disconnect and reconnect the device,.
Me: /do_it
Me: /wait
Me: Now what?
UF: Huh? Who are you?
Me: /restart_browser
UF: Hi. I'm user friendly. Let's reinstall Android. Please plug in your device.
Me: /plug_in_device
UF: Please give me permission to enable ADB tools.
Me: /permit_adb_tools
UF: Confirm that you want me to reinstall Android on your device.
Me: /confirm
UF: Doing it. .... Done. Rebooting...
Next time, I'll just use adb/fastboot.
