Going after museums has its own history. The Nazis famously attacked "degenerate art" (modernism, especially that from Jewish artists), showcasing denounced work in special museum exhibits. Fortunately, it backfired; they ended up unwittingly curating some of the most important art of the 20th century, inspiring a future generation of equally "degenerate" artists.

    Aside: The effect of the "degenerate art" exhibits was a plot point explored in the 2018 film Never Look Away, which is (approximately) based on the life of the artist Gerhard Richter.
