I'm not going to present Mastodon as the final form panacea of doing things better, but it's such a step in the right direction compared to the platforms that have the incentive (read: prophetic guarantee) to eventually enshittify. Corporate-controlled social media can never grow out of childish, empty attention-seeking behavior. The main line they must care about pushing upwards is engagement, and there's no ceiling at which they're satisfied. They can only grow deeper into the nooks and crannies of a refined, production-tested extraction methodology. It is a cultural dead end.
