Just found out my friend suffers from a severe and debilitating case of allism. They have no consistent moral compass, can't speak unless engaged in intense and prolonged eye contact, and if social situations don't go their way, even if the faux pas is subtle, they can quickly become irrationally upset or angry. Doctors say there are many kinds of allism, some types more severe, some less, and apparently there's no cure for it yet. I hear there's an organization looking for a cure, but the field is nascent and a solution seems to be decades away at least. Some researchers think allism is caused by a genetic disorder, and it's a permanent and lifelong condition. My heart goes out to the allistics out there. I can't imagine how hard it must be to live with such an awful disease.
