No, its much more about complacency. The whole world has always been suffering outside our protected bubble. “Starving kids in africa” and all that. People know damn well the suffering is spreading they just wont believe it can reach them until its biting at their heels. The truth is, though, trump represents that very threat. Someone who would sell your own children to be sex trafficked and murdered. The mob. The deep state. Cult. All wrapped into one. Fascism is here, and people still think time will wash it away.
