Parenting was different then: my mother told me after I'd failed the 11+ exam (itself a failed selection method to fit available grammar school places to a bell curve) that 'I wasn't as clever as I thought I was.' I didn't need much of a push but that impetus gave me the boost to prove her wrong. And, I did. #ParentingInThe50s
