@ascentale@sfba.social @cainmark@mstdn.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A7: I ran Bike Day at my kids' elementary school for several years. We had some fun games, taught road safety, hand signals, I let them pop a tire with a pick, then showed how we fix that flat. Did some minor bike repairs. (Kids bikes only, so many parents brought their bikes for repair. Nah-ah. Bring inner tubes of various sizes, ask a local shop to donate them, and patch kits.) All of that was engaging, but mostly they just wanted to ride, ride, ride around the schoolyard. Oh, our local police department donated free kids helmets. We got a bunch and handed them out. WHAT GOT THEIR ATTENTION, and was the big draw was the fire truck, firefighters, plastic toy fire helmets, and the opportunity to register their bikes with the city. They would drive the fire truck right onto the playground. I don't even know if registering bikes with a city is still a thing, but the fire department was always game, and the kids and families loved it.
