there's this weird mythos about neurodivergent people not understanding figures of speech but what's really going on is that when that happens a neurotypical person will make fun of them rather than telling them what the fuck they meant

a lot of literature about autistic people has something like "autistic people will say words that form sentences that mean the thing they're trying to say" and "autistic people try to do the right thing even if nobody is policing them" as if those are negative qualities
